Mariella qualified in 2008 achieving her postgraduate diploma in BSL/English Interpreting to distinction standard. 

She joined the team of interpreters for the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD). Working as a community interpreter broadening her experience, continuing to learn and develop whilst receiving regular supervision. 

As a freelance interpreter she remains committed to continuing her professional development, regularly attending conferences and engaging in training courses to refresh and enhance her skills. She is a conscientious reflective practitioner receiving formal supervision both 1:1 and in a group, to enhance her ethical competence, manage her well-being, and remain confident and resilient. She also has a peer support group, a space for more informal reflections and discussions relating to work.

A strong proponent of high standards within the BSL/English interpreting profession, she is an active member of the Association of Sign Language Interpreters (ASLI), and the interpreters union NUBSLI, and has taken on voluntary roles for both these organisations.

In 2017 she trained to become a professional supervisor, qualifying with a diploma in 2018 and now supervises interpreters.
